There were dozens of the yellow headed blackbird in the area, but when I arrived I saw none. Then I heard a few. Then I walked around the swamp and saw a few clouds like this rise from the phragmites and plunge back in a little ways away.
these birds, when they became too nervous, would simply loosen their grip on the cattail stems and slide out of view..
this is a close crop of a much larger image. the yellow headed blackbird were skittish: the girls hadn't arrived yet.
