The sky as I left the Brighton area, heading down canyon. 20Jul10
(handheld, shooting my 40d out the car window)
I had the day off and took a dozen bags of tree trimmings to the TransJordan Landfill. As I approached I spotted this red tail perched on the roadside fence. Out of 117 shots this morning these 6 remain. I need to learn how to use the 5d3 AF system. I lost quite a few great opportunities this morning.
Bell's Cnyn silhouette, 6:20am. (Just discovered that my laptop display isn't that great. The box I process photos on doesn't show posterization in the sky..)
A Blue-eyed Darner, not to be confused with the California Darner. Cool blue, orange, black &white dragon fly, hovering over the pond. 15Aug10
Red Tailed hawk, working out a balance.
More vertical than they deserve to be..
Mits does the two-handed wave w Dayra's son.
Coming down from the upper deck I grabbed this. Dinner time with a cold front moving into the area. 26Oct10
As we drove away from the hay barn we were met by a group of pronghorn antelope, led by this buck. The BBC "Yellowstone" video says they evolved to outrun a now extinct North American cheetah: they're the fastest animal in North America, capable of 60mph.
(the animals are not afraid of humans on the island, mainly because they're not shot at)
(I read that most animals of North America had a similar disposition before armed settlers arrived)
Looking NE out of Abravanel Hall, at the corner of West & South Temple streets. Demonstrating "separation of church and state", UT's state capitol is in the left background and the LDS SLC temple is in the center background. There's a good block or two between them. Hotel Utah is right of center, and a new 20-story condo project is at the right edge. The Trax light rail runs along S. Temple.
Black billed magpie: reluctant to have it's picture taken, but curious just the same.
Flying Orca.
(this one hangs in the kitchen, looking down on those who look up)
Moon above Silver Lake minutes before the clouds blocked it for the evening. (Also minutes before a group of young women asked if they could share my pier for a bit of fishing. They said, "There's a moose down at the Spruces campground: you should go there...". I figured 20 novice fisherwomen on a 15x15 pier wouldn't mix well w my camera gear.) 20Jul10
(tripod on pier, cable release, mirror lockup, breath held, the usual suspects, plus black pt, white pt, midtone contrast, etc in CS5)
Venus Transit

A planet (Venus) passes between the sun and camera. It's "about Earth size".
A small plane passes between the sun and the camera too.
Female Norther Harrier overhead.
Shrub Jay
Dark eyed Junco
I got to the bottom of the driveway on my way to work and saw the moon about to set.
I went back to the house, setup my camera, and returned for the shot. The moon was gone.
My natural light setup: veggies arranged, reflector screen blocking the sun light, PLamp holding the reflector, Spyder Cube and color chart (to get the tomato colors right), ND filter, etc.
Ethan looking west from peak 10410.

(2 shot handheld pano)
18:49:47, nictitating membranes cover its eyes.

(5d3 spot metering is incredible: this is broad daylight)
Golden Eagle (these, in the wild, have taken more than one of steve's falcons)

(steve chindgren's free flight bird show, hogle zoo)
Gnarly texture on the largest elephant (who drove the other two off the last bits of hay..)
No trouble focusing on the lupine; plenty of contrast with the background.
Looking east and up toward Lone Peak, after dark, from the water tower tennis court. 24Feb12
Same hopper, f/8.0 and maybe 4" from it.
Frost on the boardwalk and surrounding grasses, new shoots in Silver Lake. Brighton, UT.
Tide pool with 300 f/2.8L
cow & calf doing a "Northern Exposure" stroll of Brighton's loop: Ethan's 40D shot out the moving car window.
these beetles greet you by pointing their backend up at you.
wasatch blvd, bells canyon, and the lone peak wildness
